Rabbit hutches are cosy little homes where you can put your furry little friends in. Made of wood, rabbit hutches can come in different designs to address almost anything that your little bunny friend wants. Coincidentally, rabbit hutches are fairly small so they are also ideal for small animals like guinea pigs.

What to look for in hutches

Hutches are made out of wood so you’ll find all sorts of hutches made out from different kinds of wood. However, since they are usually placed outdoors, you’re going to want to go with one that is made from very sturdy wood like Redwood. White wood hutches are cheaper but the material is inferior so they don’t usually last as long. Part of being located outdoors is being subjected to rain so you want a hutch with a roof cover. Rubber is a typical roof cover and will do excellent work at water-proofing. Check latches and catches to ensure they are sturdy. You don’t want to place your rabbit in a home outdoors only to find that said home can’t contain your rabbit. You also want rabbit hutches that are big enough. Just how big a hutch is depends on how big your rabbit is. At the very least, get a four-foot hutch since this is the least space that a dwarf rabbit needs so it can be comfortable. If you have bigger rabbits, then the five-foot rabbit hutches are your best bets. To give your rabbits room for exercise, look for rabbit hutches with runs they can hop around on.

Do you really have to get a hutch?

If you don’t get a hutch, then you’re going to have to keep your rabbits indoors. This would actually be fine if your home wasn’t such a dangerous place for a rabbit. Dangerous? Your house is dangerous? Yes. In fact, there lurks danger in every corner of your house and they come in the form of electrical wires. Rabbits are very fond of gnawing on things since their teeth are still growing and unfortunately, one of their favourites around the home is the electrical cord. Be that a power cord for your laptop, your television, or any other electrical appliance, rabbits will find them and gnaw on them, putting them at high risk of electrocution or getting mouth burns. That’s why a hutch is ideal, you don’t have to worry about wires so you can help ensure the well-being of your rabbit.
